Perform a cold reset on a hp 4600 series

If you HP 4600/4650 printer is giving you a bit of stick then it might be a good idea to perform a “cold reset”.

This can be acheived by doing the following.

Power off the printer (duh!)

Press and hold the green checkmark button.

Turn on the printer and continue to hold down the button.

The printer should make its usual whirring sounds and will eventually come to a point where all three indicator lights are solidly lit up. When you reach this point release the button. Use the arrows to navigate down the menu to “cold reset” and press the green checkmark button.

The printer will perform a “cold reset” and should hopefully be free from any minor glitches.

Tried to do a cold reset on an HP4600dn and despite holding the check button while switching on the printer I did not get the lights to come on and nor did the printer show an alternate cold reset option. Is there something else I should be doing?
    Thanks

I had the same issue. I tried the procedure three times, and the three LEDs never came on solid. Finally, I turned the power on, and then immediately hit and held down the green button. This time, the LEDs went solid pretty quickly, and I was able to scroll down and hit “COLD RESET”. It may take you a few tries to get the timing right, but it worked for me on the first try (maybe I just got lucky). Hope this helps.

hassa4600hdn his method worked, till the text “cold reset” appeared, but the printer did not perform its cold reset. On the little screen the two rows with thirteen little stars returned and the #$%%-thing is silent again …
