Here are the abbreviations for the BES Server Logs:

ACNV = BlackBerry Attachment Conversion
ALRT = BlackBerry Alert
ASRV = BlackBerry Attachment Service
BBUA = BlackBerry User Admin Service
CBCK = Backup Connector
CEXC = Exchange Connector
CMNG = Management Connector
CNTS = Notes Connector
CONN = BlackBerry Synchronization Connector
CTRL = BlackBerry Controller
DISP = BlackBerry Dispatcher
HHCG = BlackBerry Configuration Tool
MAGT = BlackBerry Messaging Agent
MDAT = BlackBerry Mobile Data Service
MDBC = BlackBerry Database Consistency Service
MNGR = BlackBerry Manager
POLC = BlackBerry Policy Service
ROUT = BlackBerry Router
SYNC = BlackBerry Synchronization Service

These are located in:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs

Blackberry Administration Service Won’t Start

You get the following error:

“The BlackBerry Administration Service – Application Server service terminated unexpectedly.
It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.”

Implement the following fix:

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Right-click ReservedPorts, and then click Modify.
Paste the following at the bottom.
48855-48858
45588-45588
49955-49955
45599-45599

Restart the server.

BES Express Handset Server Activation

You can activate a Blackberry by plugging it into your BES Server with a USB cable.

1. Login to Blackberry Administration Service

2. Create User without activation password.

3. Plugin Blackberry via USB – wait 30 seconds.

4. Expand Attached Devices and click Scan if it doesn’t pick up automatically.

5. Click Mange Current Device

6. Click Assign the current device to a user

7. Search for User

8. Select User and Click Associate User

9. Wait upto 30 seconds.

Note: If Attached Devices comes up blank do the following:

1. Make sure you’ve enabled the ActiveX Control – The ActiveX Control is what lets BES See USB Devices.
2. Make sure you plugged the device in after logging into the BES Admin Service

If you can’t run the ActiveX Control:

Tools -> Internet Options -> choose the Security tab
Click the Custom Level button
Enable the following settings:
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Initialize and script ActiveX control not marked as safe.

BlackBerry Controller error 5003

After I rebooted our Blackberry server today the Blackberry Controller service would not restart and the system log showed ‘error 5003′.

I did the following to fix the issue:

Stop the DNS, start the BlackBerry Controller service, and then restart the DNS.Note: The issue could potentially occur again when the computer is restarted.
Modify the value of the Syslog User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port using the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Controller\SysLogPort registry key to utilize port 4071 and restart the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services. Note: If the SysLogPort registry key is not be present, it can be created as a DWORD key before performing the workaround.

Hard Reset Blackberry Curve

These instructions are for resetting a Blackberry Curve (then how to reactive it)

1. Scroll to and select the Settings icon (to select push the trackball in).
2. Scroll to and select the Options icon.
3. Scroll to and select Security Options.
4. Scroll to and select General Settings.
5. Press the Menu key , then select Wipe Handheld.
6. The device is going to confirm that the data will be erased. Select Continue.
WARNING: A master reset will result in the loss of ALL user data!
7. Enter “blackberry” to confirm handheld wipe.
8. Once the blackberry has rebooted
9. Go to option (spanner)
10. Go to advanced options
11. Go to Enterprise activation
12. Enter your email address
13. Enter code (given to you by your enterprise administrator)
14. Click ball and select activate.
