To fix this problem, login to your outlook web access.

Click Options

Under Email-Security click the download button for the latest S/MIME Control.

This will need to be done on any computer you use to send email from.

When trying to open Outlook you get the following error:

‘Cannot start microsoft office outlook. Cannot open the outlook window’

To fix:

1. Click start > run
2. Enter:

   Outlook.exe /resetnavpane

3. Click OK.

Note If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may not see Run on the Start menu. In this situation, use the following steps to locate the Run option.

1. Click Start > All Programs.
2. Click Accessories.
3. Click Run.

When trying to use the Out of Office Assistant from the tools menu in outlook 2003 you receive a message stating : -

The command is not available. See the program documentation about how to use this extension.

To resolve this problem you will need to re-enable the outex.dll addin/file.

To do this go to > Help > About Microsoft office outlook > Disabled items. Click on outex.dll and select enable.

Restart outlook and you should be good to go again!

To create a simple signature in outlook 2003 follow the steps below.

1. From your main outlook window (not within an email) go to tools and options
2. In the options menu click on the Mail Format tab
3. At the bottom of the mail format tab select Signatures
4. Click New
5. Add in a name for your signature and click next
6. Fill in the details you wish to appear at the bottom of every new email automatically
7. Click Finish and OK (several times!)

Press New to create a new email and marvel in your new autosignature glory!

Often when you have problems with Outlook Web Access they can be sorted by recreated the OWA directories. If virtual directories become corrupted they will not automatically recreate themselves.

Today I found the proper way to recreate the Virtual Directory.
Step one is to view all of the Virtual Directories on the server.
Get-OwaVirtualDirectory will display a list of all the Exchange Virtual Directories on that server. The one you are looking for
here is “OWA (Default Web Site)” on a default install.

Step two is to remove the default OWA Virtual Directory with:
Remove-OwaVirtualDirectory -identity “owa (Default Web Site)”

The next step is to recreate the OWA Virtual Directory with:
New-OWAVirtualDirectory -OWAVersion “Exchange2007″ -Name “owa (Default Web Site)”

Now go into the Exchange 2007 Management Console and setup the correct internal and external URLs and any other settings you may have
changed the first time around. One of the changes I recommend is on the “Authentication” tab the Logon Format for Forms based authentication to “User
name only” and then setting the domain. This will make it easier for your users to login by not having to remember the domain or typing domain\username.

Another small problem that I came across recently. A team of 10 people all use a public folder shared calendar to track appointments/commitments. An item was added to the calendar lacking details and no one owned up as being the creator. Unfortunately for them I found a way of identifying who was responsible by looking up who created the calendar item. I did this using the following steps from Microsoft help (KB Article 257492)

1. On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Active Appointments.

If you are using Outlook 2003, point to Arrange By on the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Active Appointments.
2. Move the mouse pointer to one of the column headings (such as Subject), and then right-click that heading. Click Field Chooser in on the shortcut menu.
3. In the Field Chooser, change from Frequently-used fields to All Appointment fields.
4. Click Organizer, and then drag Organizer to the column heading area. You see red arrows appear that indicate the column heading’s position. Release the mouse button when you have the field where you want it.
5. In the Field Chooser, change from All Appointment fields to Date/Time fields.
6. Click Created, and then drag Created to the column heading area. You see red arrows appear that indicate the column heading’s position. Release the mouse button when you have the field where you want it.
7. Close the Field Chooser, and then expand the columns if needed.
