Double-Clicked Documents Slow to Open In Word

Click start > run
Type cmd
In the black box type:
netstat -a
Look for “SYN_SENT” and the IP associated with it.

Click start > run
Type regedit
Search for that IP and delete any references to it as a network share (often in printer folders).
Close and restart.

Set Out of Office Outlook 2010

If you are using Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 with an Exchange server you can set out of office messages by doing the following:

1. Click on the File Tab (top left).

2. Make sure you are on the info sub tab (should be on here by default).

3. Click the button that says ‘Automatic Replies’

4. In the popup window change the radio button to ‘I am currently Out of the Office’

5. Enter a message in the AutoReply box.

6. Check you have no rules setup that might interfere with the sending of out of office replies.

7. Click OK.

Once you go back to the home tab you should then see a gold bar to show that the Out of Office is active.

Cannot Modify or Delete any Rules in Outlook 2003

None of your Outlook rules work, you can’t tick them, modify or delete them.

Run outlook.exe /cleanrules to clear all your Outlook rules.

Error configuring Exchange 2003 mail account in Outlook 2007

When trying to configure a mail account you get the following error:

“the action cannot be completed. the connection to microsoft exchange is unavailable. outlook must be online or connected to complete this action”

Instead of putting in the mail server (ie server-mx) put in the domain name (ie. domain.local).

Word 2010 Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions.

When trying to open a word document you get the following error:

Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions”.

To get round this – right click on the file and select properties.

Next click unblock.

The file is corrupt and cannot be opened – Excel 2010

When trying to open a file in Excel 2010 you get the following error:

“The file is corrupt and cannot be opened”

1. Open Excel 2010.
2. Click on File > Options.
3. Select Trust Center > Trust center settings.
4. Select Protected view.
5. Uncheck all the options under Protected View > OK.
6. Restart Excel 2010 and try to open Excel documents.

How to import .nk2 files into Outlook 2010

If your nicknames have not imported correctly in Outlook 2010 then do the following:

  1. Make sure that the .nk2 file is in the following folder:
    %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook

    Note The .nk2 file must have the same name as your current Outlook 2010 profile. By default, the profile name is “Outlook.” To check the profile name, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Mail.
    3. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type outlook.exe /importnk2, and then click OK. This should import the .nk2 file into the Outlook 2010 profile.

Cannot start microsoft office outlook. Cannot open the outlook window

When trying to open Outlook you get the following error:

‘Cannot start microsoft office outlook. Cannot open the outlook window’

To fix:

  1. Click start > run
  2. Enter:

    Outlook.exe /resetnavpane

  3. Click OK.

Note If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may not see Run on the Start menu. In this situation, use the following steps to locate the Run option.

  1. Click Start > All Programs.
  2. Click Accessories.
  3. Click Run.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 – The command is not available. Out of Office Assistant

When trying to use the Out of Office Assistant from the tools menu in outlook 2003 you receive a message stating : -

The command is not available. See the program documentation about how to use this extension.

To resolve this problem you will need to re-enable the outex.dll addin/file.

To do this go to > Help > About Microsoft office outlook > Disabled items. Click on outex.dll and select enable.

Restart outlook and you should be good to go again!

Bullet Points Crashing Word 2003

When you add bullet points to a word 2003 document the program crashes.

To fix:

Delete (or rename) the following Registry key:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version>.0\Word\Li st Gallery Presets

(For Office 2003 using Version 11)

Restart your PC.
